Hill Park is an interesting suburb. It is a small but beautiful town, with a population of about 5,600 (2018 estimate). The suburb is located northeast of Manurewa urban centre. It is a very beautiful place to have a home. It was recognised in 2016 by the Auckland Council as a special character area; certain features must be protected should redevelopment of this area occur. These features include twentieth-century styled brick bungalows, International style modernist architecture, English cottages, etc. Hill Park is a native sanctuary, hence has large areas of native forest, including the Orford Park, David Park and Hillcrest Grove Reserve.

Let us take a brief look at the history of the suburb. Hill Park used to be part of Manukau City until 2010, when it merged with other Auckland councils. This suburb’s history began in 1910 when David Laurence Nathan, son of a then-popular merchant David Nathan, and his wife built a summer residence in Manurewa. It was named ‘The Hill’.

Until 2021, Hill Park was named a suburb by the New Zealand Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (NZGB). This was after the Hill Park Residents’ Association submitted the proposal. The basis of their proposal is Hill Park’s unique heritage characteristics and landmarks which have helped build its unique identity, enough for it to earn the status of a suburb. Some of these landmarks include Orford lodge, the Nathan Homestead, and the remnants of the Hill Park Native Forests.

Why Own a Property in Hill Park?

With the beautiful houses and calm environment, it is hard to imagine why not own a home in Hill Park.

Hill Park is a modern, well-designed suburb with a beautiful family-friendly neighbourhood and shops. Some houses in Hill Park were designed in the sixties by renowned architect Ron Sang.

The road network is good, and there is easy access to the New Zealand State Highway, which connects Hill Park with the Manukau City Centre and Auckland. You also do not have to worry much about getting stuck in a traffic jam.

Hill Park has a good co-ed primary school for families with school-age kids. Hill Park also has a bakery, a good public transport system and many other amenities. Other major towns like the Manukau City Centre are just a few minutes away.

Since it has recently been named a suburb, it is wise to predict that there will be further development in the area. This will mean more people are moving into Hill Park. In turn, the prices of houses will…you guessed right, go up.
